In this new Lectio study, Dr. Brant Pitre draws evidence from both early Christian and non-Christian writings attesting to the authenticity, authorship, and dating of the Gospels, and as he gives an in-depth look at the gospel accounts of Jesus’s Crucifixion, Resurrection, and the proclamation of Jesus’s divinity. Topics covered include:

  • Were the Gospels Anonymous?
  • The Early Church Fathers
  • Are the Gospels Biographies?
  • When Were the Gospels Written?
  • The Kingdom of God and the Messiah
  • Did Jesus Claim to Be God?
  • The Crucifixion of Jesus
  • The Resurrection of Jesus
  • Question and Answer

This full-color study guide will help you reflect more deeply on this enlightening DVD series.

“What we find in examining these early writings is that there was no question whatsoever about who authored the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. According to Church Fathers, even the heretics affirmed that the Gospels were written by eyewitnesses. These heretics did not believe that the apostolic eyewitnesses were telling the truth, but their writings do not suggest a belief that the Gospels are forgeries or that they were written anonymously and then attributed to eyewitnesses after the fact.”

This is the second Lectio study our Thursday Morning adult prayer group of 9 has done. We enjoy the set-up for the courses. Not everyone completely finishes every daily commit, every week but they add a richness to the course that we appreciate. They provide for great discussions. Even though we are a FORMED parish, we order the DVDs because of internet issues. As a facilitator it is comforting to have a back up plan. Dr. Pitre has such a gift for explanation and being relatable with a touch of humor. He is one of our group's favorites!

We LOVE this Lectio Series! The readings and videos are very user friendly and the questions are very thought provoking. We are starting the second round of this study. Also, I recommend this series to RCIA candidates who do not yet strongly believe that Jesus was a real person as this series proves Jesus through historical events.
