From the Artist: "When I was in Rome I visited the Holy Stairs: the Scala Sancta. These are the stairs Jesus ascended after his scourging to be tried before Pontius Pilate. St. Helena, the Emperor Constantine’s mother, had these stairs transported to Rome. This graphite drawing is of one of the statues that reside at the base of the stairs, depicting the Lord of all subjecting Himself to the judgment of me."
