Details
At age 33, St. Damien of Molokai left his mission parish to work among the lepers of Hawaii. He died there of leprosy at only age 49. Like Christ himself, he became rejected for the rejected, a leper for the lepers: something rare in a world that wants to eliminate suffering. Updated and revised the text in light of Damien’s canonization by Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI in 2009.
