For centuries, Catholics have clung to the Rosary -- and for good reason! Saints have spoken about their personal devotion to the prayer, and expressed the power and graces derived from asking for Our Lady’s intercession. From Pope St. John Paul II, who stated it was his favorite prayer, to St. Josemaria Escriva and St. Padre Pio declaring the Rosary as a powerful weapon, we have much to gain by following these holy people to Jesus through Mary!
Our Sweet Mother told St. Dominic, “If you want to reach these hardened souls and win them over to God, preach my Rosary.”
In honor of Our Lady of the Rosary’s Feast Day, we thought it would be special to honor Our Lady’s wishes and share several of her 15 promises to those who pray the Rosary.
Promise #4 It will cause good works to flourish; it will obtain for souls the abundant mercy of God; it will withdraw the hearts of men from the love of the world and its vanities, and will lift them to the desire for Eternal things. Oh, that souls would sanctify themselves by this means!
Mary promises that the seeds of our good works will blossom and multiply with her intercession. By the grace of God, our attention will be drawn to concerning ourselves with Eternal Life rather than this fleeting earthly life.
Promise #5 The soul which recommends itself to me by the recitation of the Rosary shall not perish.
Mary is very straightforward with this powerful promise. She declares that anyone who is devoutly committed to praying the Rosary will be saved from hell.
Promise #7 Whoever shall have a true devotion for the Rosary shall not die without the Sacraments of the Church.
She ensures that we will have access to the sacraments, to receive their sanctifying graces, before we die.
Promise #9 I shall deliver from purgatory those who have been devoted to the Rosary.
Our Lady instills us with hope when she says that even if we should require time in purgatory, she promises to rescue us!
Promise #13 I have obtained from my Divine Son that all the advocates of the Rosary shall have for intercessors the entire Celestial Court during their life and at the hour of death.
This one is a tiny bit mind blowing… She asked Christ’s permission to have the ENTIRE Communion of Saints praying and interceding for us at the hour of our death. Imagine every single soul in Heaven praying for you during the last moments of your life! It shows just how loved and desired each one of us is and how celebrated we are upon entering Heaven.
When we pray the Rosary, we not only bring a sweet smile to Our Mother’s lips, we invite her to comfort our hearts and homes with her overwhelming love and protection. By praying the rosary, we repeatedly place our trust in Christ through the intercession of His Beloved Mother.
Although we may never see the fruits of our prayers in our lifetime, Our Lady promises that she will be with us at the hour of our death. Moreover, once we are in Heaven, we will see Mary’s gentle fingerprints pressed into each of our intentions, revealing her tender awareness of all that we lifted up to her in our lifetime. We need not worry when we have the Queen of the Universe valiantly fighting to save us!
